Dr. Sal Says - Everything you need to know about getting braces

The #1 Thing You Don’t Know about Invisalign Orthodontics (but should!)

clear correct and invisalign orthodonticsMany people see ClearCorrect and Invisalign Orthodontics, two products that offer removable braces, as perfect ways to get the straight teeth and beautiful smile they’ve always wanted – and in some cases that’s true. However, there’s one thing most potential patients need to understand before their excitement gets the best of them: clear aligners don’t work for everyone.

Clear Aligners Aren’t Always the Best Choice

Removable braces are a great treatment option, but they aren’t suitable for children or anyone with crowns, veneers or dental bridges. Clear aligners work best for mild adjustments and teeth that are only slightly crooked, not larger changes where aggressive movement is needed. Severely rotated teeth, deep overbites, large tooth gaps and other major dental issues can’t be fixed with Invisalign and ClearCorrect Orthodontics.

You Have to Fully Commit

Even if you discover clear aligners are one of your orthodontic possibilities, they still may not be the best choice for you. In order for your treatment to progress, you have to be fully committed to following your dentist’s instructions about wearing your removable braces. You have to wear aligners 22 hours a day and can only take them out for eating, brushing and flossing your teeth. If you don’t wear them as prescribed, your treatment could take considerably longer or even regress.

Don’t Rush Into Into It

It’s exciting to think about the future and what your smile could end up looking like, but make sure you carefully review each point of the treatments you’re considering. Cost, length of time and even upcoming events like weddings can be factors in your decision. Discussing ClearCorrect and Invisalign Orthodontics with your orthodontist will help you decide what plan is best for you. And remember that even if clear aligners aren’t an option, traditional braces have come a long way and are less noticeable and more comfortable than ever.
