What to Expect at Your First Orthodontic Exam

About 50% of all Americans wear braces, so you’re not alone when it comes to questions about orthodontic exams. Here’s a sneak peek of what you’ll find when you step into Dr. Sal’s office for your initial visit.

First, you’ll fill out any necessary forms before you (or your child) go back to the exam room with a staff member. Then we’ll get to know you and your family, and talk about what you want to accomplish with treatment.

Second, we’ll review your health records and complete an oral exam. We may need to take pictures, x-rays or a dental cast of your teeth. We want to make sure we get all the info we can in one sitting, so your appointment could last between one and two hours.

Third, we’ll talk about your orthodontic treatment options which includes the type of appliance you (or your child) should wear, an outline of how long the treatment will take and what kind of maintenance and upkeep would be needed.

Last but not least, we’ll review our financial policies, your insurance coverage and any available payment plans. We know there are a lot of factors to consider, so we don’t expect you to make a commitment immediately.

An orthodontic exam is a lot easier than most patients realize! It’s a great opportunity to have your questions answered on how to get your jaw and teeth straighter and healthier than ever.
